About us
Expanding horizons
We continually expose ourselves to new ideas and enhance our skills across design, horticulture, landscaping and construction. We are always striving to be and do better.
Positive change
We believe in giving back to the communities and environments around us. We spend time with local schools, offer opportunities to those who lack support, and use our work to support ecosystems.
Where we work
We are based in the heart of England, where four counties meet: Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. We work with clients throughout England and beyond.
Nathan Humpreys
Founder and CEO
I am driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact, not only for our clients but also within the broader community. I am a passionate and intense individual who dedicates wholeheartedly to what I love. My creativity spans various forms of art, including painting and photography.
I have more than 15 years experience in the building and landscape industry, including training in garden design, which allows me to be both a business owner and a designer. I am most passionate about design – often visualising 3D designs in my mind before even drafting the master plan.
Three words that describe me: Intense, creative, determined.
Kieran Sargent
Founder and COO
Growing up, I watched my grandparents create a business together, working hard and creating beautiful projects within their community, and this inspired me. I started as a labourer at a hard landscaping company, enjoyed it, and decided to continue learning and mastering the skills needed to start my own business.
I love the construction side of the business. Transforming a site into someone’s dream garden is incredibly fulfilling. My vision for the business is to create something different from anything else around – a complete design and build company that also offers aftercare.
Three words that describe me: Easygoing, understanding, hardworking.
Andrew Small
Technician
I have brought strong organisational and planning skills from my previous job to the team, following a career change. Surrounding Counties was the perfect choice for me.
My day involves hard work and continuous learning from my colleagues. I am most passionate about seeing the happiness of our clients at the end of a project.
I’m looking forward to seeing the business grow by focusing on design, build and aftercare services. Additionally, I hope to engage in horticultural projects with young people in our local community.
Three words to describe me: Reliable, committed, cheerful.
Caleb Job
Horticultural Consultant
As horticultural consultant, it is my job to carefully select the appropriate plants to meet a brief.
Immersing myself in nature allows me to feel calm and inspired. I first discovered my interest in plants whilst volunteering on a permaculture farm in rural Nepal. Following an apprenticeship, I maintained large domestic gardens in Chelsea and Kensington, and later completed the Kew Diploma at the Royal Botanic Gardens. This is the world’s foremost qualification in botanical horticulture, and taught me about plants from around the world in great depth. Meanwhile I worked as a plantsman for a range of established garden designers at Chelsea Flower Show, and have also helped to maintain high end private gardens in Central London.
Gardens, plants and green spaces are so important for human health that I feel a great sense of fulfilment when I can help a client achieve their dream outdoor space.
Three words that describe me: Creative, ambitious, grounded.
“Before Nathan, Kieran, Adam and Caleb got to work on my back yard it was the eyesore of the road – waist high weeds and bramble – even the neighbourhood cats had begun avoiding it for fear of the thorns. The transformation is simply astonishing. I now have a characterful garden with assorted plants and it’s now a haven for pollinators while still being low-maintenance. My neighbour described it as a paradise. I agree – it’s my new eden. The Surrounding Counties team are a thoroughly amiable, good natured, helpful, creative and knowledgeable bunch. And I can’t recommend them highly enough.”
